Synopsis- Reuben Feffer (Ben Stiller), a risk assesser consultant for insurance firms, plays life very safe. However when his wife leaves him for a scuba-obsessed frenchman on the first day of his honeymoon, he takes a chance with the slightly more free-spirited waitress Polly (Jennifer Annniston).
Music- I wasn't paying attention.
Acting- Ben Stiller is always reliable. Honestly I don't think I've ever seen a crappy Ben Stiller movie. Although this one was kind of unusual, because generally Ben Stiller is the best part of Ben Stiller movies, but in this case, Philip Seymour Hoffman totally stole the show. He played Reuben's washed up actor friend Sandy Lyle, who had a recognizable role in a movie 20 years ago but nothing since, and tries really hard to hang onto it. He puts in some really, really great scenes. Actually, this could be one of the best things I've ever seen him in. Also slightly out of character for him, because he doesn't tend to be overtly comedic, and he definitely was here.
Ben Stiller was interesting though. This character, and really the whole movie, was a lot more mature than most of the other things I've seen him in. Regrettably, there was a Dumb and Dumber-style bathroom scene, sort of, and I was a little disappointed at that, because really served no purpose other than some cheap laughs (I didn't laugh much). But that aside, the humor was pretty good and the slapstick element was appreciably low. It was just good comedy.
